I have decided to change my project due to my main singer Amanda Williams being unavailable due to other commitments. She is currently busy writing and recording an album in London so she won't be free to learn or rehearse any songs for my project until she is finished.
I thought it would make more sense to do a project which is based around the drums, since I am a drummer, allowing me to have total control over the project and not have to worry about or rely on my singers to carry the performance. I have decided to do my project on famous drummers male and female from the period 1963-1973. One of the drummers I will be looking at is Keith Moon who has inspired me from a young age. I was a big fan of the Who before I started playing drums and when I first got my kit I began to teach myself listening to the likes of No Doubt and the Who. My drumming style was quite eccentric in the early days, similar to Keith Moon as I would never play just a straight groove, I was always filling throughout songs and going slightly "crazy". This changed when I went to college and began receiving drum lessons which taught me to be more grounded and hold the groove which holds up in my playing today.
The aim of my project is to look at four drummers, two male and two female from the stated time period. The drummers I will be looking at are Maureen Tucker from the Velvet Underground, Honey Lantree from the Honeycombs, Keith Moon from the Who and Ginger Baker from Cream. These four drummers all have very different playing styles and the idea is to analyse and discuss these styles and then compare/contrast each drummer. I will then compare/contrast the male and female drummers. I intend to research into these four drummers specifically however, I will not limit my research to only these four as there were many other male and female drummers at this time who are similar to the ones I have mentioned.
My project and performance is intended to show the different style of each drummer and the effect and influence they had on society at that time.
